Goodbye to Gariwerd,
Mary Rose Riley and I took ourselves off on an adventure in Victoria. A road trip to Gariwerd (The Grampians) in South Western Victoria. Huge escarpments of rock loom over narrow valleys which seem to embrace the ancient nature of our land. The rocks hang, stack and slump over each other in brooding cliffs that change endlessly with the mist.
After a fascinating trip through the little towns of Central Victoria, we set ourselves up for a few days of painting and drawing. It is something I have planned for a long time and never quite got organised. What a treat to travel with someone who was equally eager to make the most of the place. We were very productive as we set out to absorb the spirit of that place.
After a few days it proved to be a bit much for both of us. The weight of history started to byrden both of us and we were very content with pur efforts and happy to leave.
